Live chat on your site in four steps
No other account needed: the widget is part of Postocial. The messaging channels guide has the details.
-
Add a chat widget
In Social Accounts, choose Add account, then Live Chat.
-
Make it yours
Open Bot setup to choose the colors, layout, greeting and FAQs.
-
Paste the snippet
Copy the install snippet and paste it into your site's HTML, just before the closing </body> tag.
-
Send a test message
Open your site in a private window, start a chat and watch it arrive in the inbox.
Make it yours
A chat widget that looks like your brand
Set it all up under Bot setup: the colors, the words, the questions and the links to your other chat apps.
-
Your colors and layout
Set brand and accent colors, a gradient or solid header and the Classic or Home layout, and dock the widget on the left or right.
-
A face for the chat
Show an agent name and a status line, and write your own text for the launcher button.
-
A greeting teaser
Before visitors open the widget, show a short greeting that invites them to chat.
-
Online and offline messages
Write one message for when your team is around and another for when it is not.
-
Answers before the first message
Show up to four frequently asked questions in the widget, with your answers.
-
Your other chat apps
Add buttons or icons that open your Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram chat, for visitors who prefer them.
Behavior
Show the chat when it helps
Decide who sees the widget, where and when, so it helps visitors instead of getting in their way.
-
Ask for an email first
Require an email address before the chat starts, so you know who you are talking to.
-
Show it at the right moment
Show the widget after a few seconds, or when a visitor is about to leave the page.
-
Choose where it appears
Show it on every page, only on the pages you list or everywhere except those, on desktop, mobile or both.
Chatbot
A chatbot on your website
The same automations that answer your DMs can answer website visitors at any hour, and hand the chat to your team when a person should take over.
- Start a flow when a visitor writes, with the Live Chat message trigger and keyword matching
- Begin from a ready-made template, or build your own flow with questions and branches
- Let an AI Reply step answer with your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or DeepSeek key. With OpenAI or Gemini, it can answer from your own files and pages
- Offer a booking link or a payment link inside the chat
- Keep a handover to your team, and say the bot is automated where the law requires it
Privacy
Chats your visitors can trust
You add the widget to your own site, so you decide what to ask for and you tell visitors about it. Chats are personal data: your business controls them, and Postocial processes them for you under the data processing agreement.
- Mention the chat widget in your website's privacy notice
- Ask for an email only when you need one
- Retire a widget you no longer use, or erase its data
- Archived conversations are deleted after 30 days
Do I need another account for live chat?
No. The chat widget is part of Postocial, so there is no third-party account to set up. Add a widget, customize it and paste the snippet on your site.
Does it work on any website?
It works on any site where you can add a snippet of code to the page HTML, just before the closing body tag. If your website builder lets you add custom code, you can add the widget.
Can a bot answer first?
Yes. Publish a flow with the Live Chat message trigger, and it answers as soon as a visitor writes. For open questions, add an AI Reply step with your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or DeepSeek key. AI can get things wrong, so keep a handover to your team, and tell visitors they are chatting with an automated assistant where the law requires it.
Can visitors reach us on WhatsApp or Messenger from the widget?
Yes. Add buttons or icons that open your Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram chat, so visitors can continue in the app they prefer.
Can I ask for an email before the chat starts?
Yes. Turn on the email requirement, and visitors enter their email address before they can send a message.
Can I hide the widget on some pages?
Yes. Show it on every page, only on the pages you list, or everywhere except those pages. You can also limit it to desktop or to mobile.
What happens when nobody is online?
Write an offline message for the times nobody is around, and let your automations keep answering. Quick automations can run around the clock or only during business hours.
Website chats, answered next to your DMs
On Premium and higher plans, add the widget during the free trial, greet visitors with a flow and answer them from the same inbox as your social messages.
A card is required to start the 7-day free trial. When the trial ends, we charge your card for the plan you picked, unless you cancel before.
