- X, with your own X API key
X in Postocial
X on the same calendar as everything else
Postocial publishes to X only through an X API key from your own X developer account. Once it is connected, X works like any other channel in your workspace.
-
Threads, written in one place
Draft a whole thread in the composer and schedule it to go out in order.
-
Your key, your X account
Posts go out through the API key you add, using your X developer account and the credits you fund there.
Connect X guide -
One plan for every network
Plan X posts next to Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn and the rest, and adapt the wording for each.

Tighter drafts with AI
Ask the AI writing assistant for a shorter version of a draft or a few alternative openings.

New articles, posted for you
Point an RSS campaign at your blog or changelog and turn each new item into an X post.

Approvals for brand accounts
Require approval on posts for a company or client account, so nobody publishes to X by accident.

Best practices
X best practices
How to write for the way X counts and displays posts.
- Write to the weighted count. Every link counts as 23 characters and each emoji as 2, so a post that looks short can still pass 280.
- Use one or two hashtags. X recommends no more than two, and more mostly use up characters.
- Split big ideas into threads. Accounts without a subscription get 280 characters per post, and a thread keeps each point readable.
- Keep video short unless you subscribe. Without an X subscription, plan for videos of up to 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
- Attach up to four images. Keep each one under 5 MB.

The limit is 280 weighted characters: every URL counts as 23, and each emoji or CJK character counts as 2. Subscribers can write longer posts of up to 25,000 characters (one older X help page still says 4,000). Media limits follow the posting user's subscription, not the developer API plan.
Hashtags. X recommends no more than 2 hashtags per post, though more are allowed. Hashtags can't contain spaces or punctuation.

Get connected
How to connect X
X is the only network that needs your own API key. The connect X guide walks through the X developer portal step by step.
-
Create an X developer app
In the X developer portal, create an app to get the API key Postocial will use.
-
Fund your developer credits
X bills API use to your developer account in advance. At the time of writing, about $5 covers 500 posts. Check X for current prices.
-
Add the key and connect
Under Social Accounts > CONFIGURE SERVICES, paste your X API key and secret, choose your tier, tick Active and save. Then choose X in Add account and approve access.
-
Schedule posts and threads
Write a post or a thread, pick a time and Postocial publishes it through your key.

Why do I need my own X API key?
Postocial publishes to X only through a customer's own X API key. Your posts go through your X developer account, and X bills that account for API use, separately from your Postocial plan. The connect X guide shows how to set it up.
How much does it cost to post to X?
X sets the price. At the time of writing, prepaid X developer credits work out to about $5 per 500 posts. You pay that to X, and your Postocial plan price stays the same.
Can I schedule threads on X?
Yes. Write the thread in the composer and schedule it like any other post. Each part follows the same 280-character rules as a single post.
Does Postocial show X analytics?
No. Postocial has no analytics for X, Reddit, Tumblr or Telegram. Use X's own tools for post metrics.
Can I answer X replies from the unified inbox?
No. X is not part of the unified inbox. On Premium and higher plans, the inbox covers Instagram (comments and DMs), Facebook Pages (comments and DMs), LinkedIn (comments on page posts), YouTube (comments), Threads (replies), Google Business Profile (reviews), Bluesky (replies), Mastodon (replies) and Reddit (comments).
How long can an X post be?
280 characters for accounts without a subscription, counted with X's weighting: links count as 23 and each emoji or CJK character as 2. Subscribers can write posts of up to 25,000 characters.
