Best practices

Pinterest best practices

How to make Pins that look right in the feed and can be found in search.

  • Design for 2:3. A 1000 × 1500 image is the standard Pin. Taller Pins may be cut off in feeds.
  • Front-load the title. Titles can be up to 100 characters, but the first 40 or so may be all people see, so start with the search term.
  • Treat the description as context. Descriptions of up to 800 characters do not show in the home or search feeds, so the title and image carry the Pin.
  • Save every Pin to a relevant board. Clearly named boards help people browsing your profile find more of your Pins.
  • Make videos at least 4 seconds long. Square or vertical formats such as 1:1, 2:3, 4:5 and 9:16 work best.

FAQ

Questions about Pinterest scheduling

Something else on your mind? Email us at hello@postocial.com.

Can I choose which board a Pin goes to?

Yes. Postocial publishes Pins to the Pinterest boards you choose, so each one lands where it fits.

What size should a Pin be?

Use 2:3, ideally 1000 × 1500 pixels, as a PNG or JPEG of up to 20 MB. Pins taller than 2:3 may be cut off in feeds. The free Pinterest image resizer crops images to this size in your browser.

Can I schedule video Pins?

Yes, with a custom thumbnail. Pinterest accepts MP4, MOV or M4V videos from 4 seconds to 15 minutes long and up to 2 GB.

How long can a Pin title and description be?

Titles can be up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 800. Descriptions do not appear in the home or search feeds, so make the title and image do the work.

Can I create lots of Pins at once?

Yes. Use bulk posts to create many Pins from a CSV file, then let your posting schedule spread them across the days ahead.

Does Postocial report on my Pins?

Yes. See how your Pinterest account and your Pins perform, with the metrics Pinterest makes available, next to your other accounts, plus the best-times heatmap and a next best time to post.
