Scopes
Choose who gets Postocial
Claude Code saves each MCP server in a scope. The default is local: just you, in the current project.
| Scope | Command | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|
| Local (default) | claude mcp add --transport http postocial https://app.postocial.com/mcp | You, in the current project |
| Project | claude mcp add --transport http --scope project postocial https://app.postocial.com/mcp | Everyone in the repository, through a .mcp.json file you commit. Each person signs in with their own Postocial login. |
| User | claude mcp add --transport http --scope user postocial https://app.postocial.com/mcp | You, in every project on this computer |
Example prompts
Prompts to try in Claude Code
Claude Code can read your project, so point it at real files: changelogs, plans, docs and git history.
-
Pick the right account
"List my Postocial accounts and tell me which one is our company LinkedIn page."
-
Changelog to posts
"Read CHANGELOG.md, sum up the latest release in plain English, and draft a LinkedIn post and a Bluesky post about it as Postocial drafts."
-
What shipped since the last tag
"Look at the commits since the last git tag and draft a short what's-new post for our Mastodon account, under 500 characters."
-
Schedule from a plan file
"Read marketing/launch-plan.md. Each line has a date, a time, a time zone and an account. Schedule every post as listed, then print a table of what you scheduled."
-
Review in a diff first
"Write next week's posts to social/next-week.md first. I will review the file, and once I say ok, schedule each post exactly as written."
-
Maintenance notice
"Use ops/maintenance.md to draft a Telegram channel post about Saturday's maintenance window, and schedule it for Friday at 4 p.m. UTC."
-
Docs page to Threads
"Turn docs/webhooks.md into three Threads posts, each under 500 characters, and save them as drafts."
-
Right after a merge
"We just merged the dark mode pull request. Draft an X post about it, under 280 characters, and save it as a draft."
Abilities and limits
How Claude Code works with your workspace
Claude Code brings what it can read in your project. Postocial adds the publishing side, inside the workspace you picked.
- Reads your files and git history to find what is worth posting about.
- Calls Postocial to list your accounts, draft, schedule and queue posts, add media and read your analytics, and on Premium and higher plans to work in the inbox.
- Asks your permission before it calls a Postocial tool, unless you have allowed that tool in your settings.
- Stays within your workspace role.
Troubleshooting
Fixes for common setup problems
Most problems are about scopes or a sign-in that did not finish.
-
postocial says it needs authentication
Run /mcp, select postocial and choose Authenticate again. Finish the sign-in in the browser window that opens. A connection you have not used for 90 days always needs a new sign-in.
-
The server is missing in another project
Servers added with the default local scope only exist in the project where you added them. Run claude mcp list to check, and add it again with --scope user to use it everywhere.
-
You mistyped the name or URL
Remove the server with claude mcp remove postocial, then run the add command again.
-
It connected to the wrong workspace
Remove the server, add it again and choose the right workspace when you authenticate.
-
Teammates cannot use the shared server
A project-scoped server only shares the URL. Each teammate runs /mcp, chooses Authenticate and signs in with their own Postocial login.
-
Claude Code asks permission every time
That is the default for MCP tools. You can allow specific Postocial tools in your permission settings, but keep scheduling on ask if you want a final check.
FAQ
Questions about Postocial in Claude Code
Claude Code is made by Anthropic. Postocial is an independent product, not affiliated with Anthropic.
Do I need an API key for Claude Code?
No. Claude Code signs in with OAuth through /mcp and Authenticate, so there is no key to paste or store. Workspace API keys are for the REST APIs.
Can I share the setup with my team?
Yes. Add the server with --scope project and commit the .mcp.json file it creates. The file holds the server URL, not your login, so every teammate authenticates with their own Postocial account and their own role applies.
How is Claude Code different from the Claude app?
Both come from Anthropic. The Claude app is a chat on the web and desktop; Claude Code is a coding agent that works in your terminal and editor. They use the same server URL with different setup steps. See the Claude guide.
Does using Postocial in Claude Code cost extra?
Not on the Postocial side: every plan includes the MCP server, and you can try it during the free trial. A card is required to start the 7-day free trial. When the trial ends, we charge your card for the plan you picked, unless you cancel before. Anthropic charges for Claude Code on its own; adding Postocial does not change that.
Can Claude Code post images or videos?
Yes. Claude Code can attach files from your Postocial media library, or add an image or video to the library from a public link and use it in the post. Upload files from your computer to the media library first. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest posts need an image or video, so check the media in Postocial before the post goes out.
Where can I find the full API?
If you would rather script publishing yourself, Postocial has REST APIs with workspace API keys and signed webhooks. Start with the API overview or the API docs.
How do I remove Postocial from Claude Code?
Run claude mcp remove postocial. Your drafts and scheduled posts stay in Postocial.
