Triggers

Ways people start a chat with your bot

A flow can wait for any of these moments, alone or together.

  • Messages and keywords

Answer every message, or only messages that contain, exactly match or start with your keyword.

  • Comments on posts and ads

Reply to comments on your Page posts and ads, then continue the conversation in Messenger.

    Explore comment-to-DM
  • Click-to-Messenger ads

Greet people who start a chat from your ad, with one flow for every ad or a dedicated flow for a single ad.

  • m.me links and QR codes

Share an m.me link or print its QR code. Each one can start the flow you choose.

  • Follow-ups after a message

Start a flow after a teammate or the bot sends a message, for example to ask how it went.

  • Contact events and dates

Start a flow when a tag or pipeline stage changes, or on a date you set. Meta's 24-hour rule still decides who can receive it.

Broadcasts and sequences

Follow up within Messenger's rules

Broadcasts on Messenger reach people who messaged your Page in the last 24 hours, and opted-out contacts are skipped. For timed follow-ups, add a short sequence.

  • Send to a saved segment, now or at a set time
  • Opted-out and blocked contacts are skipped, and checked again at send time
  • Short sequences with a sending window in each contact's timezone
  • An option to stop a sequence for anyone who replies
  • Message only people who wrote to your Page first, and stop when they ask

Team handover

Hand the chat to your team at any time

Messenger chats arrive in the unified inbox next to your comments and your other channels.

  • Assign a chat to a teammate, or round-robin new ones to the least busy person
  • Pause the bot when a teammate replies, and resume it when you hand the chat back
  • Internal notes with @mentions that customers never see
  • Saved replies you insert with a slash shortcut

Good to know

Messenger's 24-hour rule, in plain words

Meta decides when a Page may message someone, and your bot has to follow the same rules.

  • Standard messages, automated ones included, only within 24 hours of the person's last message
  • The human-agent tag allows replies for up to 7 days, only when a person writes them
  • No promotions outside the window
  • No automated messages to people who never contacted your Page

FAQ

Messenger chatbot questions

Do I need a Facebook Page?

Yes. The chatbot runs on a Facebook Page you manage and answers the messages people send to it in Messenger. You connect the Page the same way you connect it for publishing.

Can it message people who never wrote to my Page?

No. Meta only lets a Page message people who contacted it first, for example with a message, a comment or a tap on your ad. The bot answers the people who reach out.

Can I send broadcasts on Messenger?

Yes, to people who messaged your Page in the last 24 hours, and opted-out contacts are skipped. Messages outside that window, such as Meta's paid marketing messages, aren't available in Postocial. How broadcasts work.

Does the menu show in Messenger?

Yes. When you save the persistent menu in Bot setup, Postocial syncs it to your Page, so it appears in Messenger with its submenus, links and flows.

Can people reach a person?

Yes. Add a handover step to any flow, for example behind a "Talk to a person" menu item, and the chat goes to your team in the unified inbox. The bot pauses while a teammate replies.

Is there a per-message fee?

No. Postocial doesn't charge per message, and the Messenger chatbot comes with messaging on Premium and higher plans. If you run Click-to-Messenger ads, Meta bills the ad spend to your ad account.

Answer Messenger in seconds, not hours

On Premium and higher plans, connect your Facebook Page during the free trial, set a welcome message and a menu, and try the bot yourself.

A card is required to start the 7-day free trial. When the trial ends, we charge your card for the plan you picked, unless you cancel before.
