Postocial MCP server
Ask your AI assistant to draft and schedule your posts
Add one URL to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code. Your assistant signs in to Postocial, works in the workspace you choose, and can list your accounts, draft, schedule and queue posts, add media and read your analytics when you ask.
Included in every plan. Free for 7 days. Card required; cancel before the trial ends and you will not be charged.
The basics
What is the Postocial MCP server?
MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools in other apps. The Postocial MCP server makes your workspace one of those tools: you ask in plain language, and the assistant does the publishing work in Postocial.
- One server URL works in every supported AI tool.
- Sign-in happens on Postocial's own page, so your password never passes through the assistant.
- With sign-in, each connection works in one workspace: the one you choose. A personal access token reaches every workspace you belong to.
- The assistant gets your permissions in that workspace, never more.
Abilities
What your assistant can do in Postocial
The server covers your posts, media, tags and analytics, plus the inbox on Premium and higher plans, always within your role. Connecting new social accounts stays in the Postocial app.
-
List your accounts
See which social accounts are connected to the workspace, so you can name the right ones in your next request.
-
Draft, edit and schedule
Turn notes into drafts, change one network's version, add posts to your queue, schedule them or publish right away. Posts it schedules still wait for approval when your workspace requires it.
-
Media and tags
Attach files from your media library, add an image or video from a public link, and tag posts.
-
Analytics
Read your results by account and post, and your best times to post. There are no analytics for X, Reddit, Tumblr and Telegram.
-
The inbox
On Premium and higher plans, search contacts, read and assign conversations, prepare broadcasts, draft automations and book appointments. Messages go out only after you confirm.
-
Respect your role
Admin, member or viewer: the assistant works with the same permissions you have in the workspace.
How to connect
Three steps from URL to first draft
Menus differ from app to app, but the path is the same everywhere.
-
Paste the URL into your app
Add
https://where your app lists connectors or MCP servers. The guides below point to the exact menu.app. postocial. com/ mcp -
Log in and pick a workspace
Your app opens Postocial's sign-in page. The workspace you pick is the only one the assistant can see.
-
Run a test request
Ask which accounts are connected. If the list matches your workspace, you are ready for drafts.
Supported clients
Pick your AI tool
Step-by-step guides for five AI tools. Other apps that support remote MCP servers connect with OAuth sign-in, or with a personal access token if they can only send a fixed token.
-
Claude
Add Postocial as a custom connector and plan posts in a regular Claude chat, on the web, in the desktop app or in the mobile apps.
Set up Claude -
ChatGPT
Create a Postocial connector in developer mode, then draft and schedule posts from your ChatGPT conversations.
Set up ChatGPT -
Claude Code
Register the server with claude mcp add, then turn changelogs and commit history into drafts from your project folder.
Set up Claude Code -
Cursor
Add the server in Cursor settings or mcp.json, then ask the agent to write posts from the files you have open.
Set up Cursor -
VS Code
Drop a small mcp.json file into your project and use Postocial from GitHub Copilot Chat in agent mode.
Set up VS Code -
Other MCP clients
No guide for your app? If it supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in, add the server URL and leave any client ID and secret empty. If it can only send a fixed token, use a personal access token. We have not tested every client.
How tokens work
Quick reference
Setup at a glance
Where Postocial goes in each app, and how each one signs in.
| Client | Where you add Postocial | Sign-in |
|---|---|---|
| Claude | Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector | OAuth: log in to Postocial, choose a workspace |
| ChatGPT | Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced settings > Developer mode, then Create | OAuth |
| Claude Code | claude mcp add --transport http postocial https://app.postocial.com/mcp, then /mcp > Authenticate | OAuth in your browser |
| Cursor | Settings > MCP, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json | OAuth |
| VS Code | .vscode/mcp.json, then Copilot Chat in agent mode | OAuth |
| Other MCP clients | The app's MCP server settings, with the server URL | OAuth where the app supports it; otherwise a personal access token in an Authorization: Bearer header |
Authentication
One URL, two ways to sign in
Most people never handle a key. OAuth sign-in takes care of it, and a personal access token covers apps that cannot sign in.
-
Server URL
https://app.postocial.com/mcpOpening it in a browser tab shows an error. That is expected: the address only answers MCP clients.
-
OAuth sign-in
Used by Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. Your AI tool opens a Postocial sign-in page, you log in and choose a workspace, and the tool gets access to that workspace.
- Your password stays with Postocial
- One workspace per connection
- Unused for 90 days, it asks you to sign in again
- Remove the connector to stop access
-
Personal access token
For MCP clients that cannot run the sign-in. Create a token under Access Tokens in your Postocial user menu (it is shown once) and have the client send it with each request as
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN. A token acts as you in every workspace you belong to, not just one.- Works in clients that can send a header
- Reaches every workspace you are a member of
- Delete it under Access Tokens to disconnect every app that uses it
Security and permissions
You stay in charge of every connection
The assistant never gets more access than you have, and you can remove it from your AI tool whenever you want.
-
No passwords in the chat
With OAuth, you log in on Postocial's sign-in page. The AI tool gets access to one workspace, not your password.
-
One workspace per sign-in
The assistant stays in the workspace you chose at sign-in. To switch, connect again and choose a different workspace. A personal access token is not limited to one workspace.
-
Your role is the limit
Workspace roles apply to the assistant too. If your role cannot do something in Postocial, neither can your assistant. How roles work.
-
It can change and delete posts
Within your role, the assistant can edit, publish and delete posts, including removing them from the networks. Keep your AI app's confirmation prompts on for those actions.
-
Drafts when you want a review
Ask for drafts instead of scheduled posts. You or a teammate can check them in Postocial before anything goes live.
-
Messages wait for your yes
On Premium and higher plans, the assistant sends a message only after you confirm, and broadcasts wait for approval in Postocial. Your customers' messages reach it marked as customer text, with an instruction not to follow them.
-
Two-factor sign-in
Turn on two-factor authentication for your Postocial login. Every OAuth connection starts with that login.
-
Tokens are secrets
Store a personal access token the way you store a password: in your client's secret settings, never in a shared config file or a git commit.

FAQ
Questions about the MCP server
Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and GitHub Copilot belong to their makers. Postocial is an independent product, not affiliated with them.
Which workspace does the assistant use?
The one you pick when you sign in, and only that one. If you are a member of more than one workspace, remove the connection from your AI tool, add it again and choose the other workspace during sign-in. With a personal access token, the assistant can reach every workspace you are a member of, so prefer sign-in when your app supports it.
Is the MCP server included in my plan?
Yes. Every Postocial plan includes the MCP server. Plans differ in features, such as the unified inbox and chatbots on Premium and higher plans, and in limits such as social accounts, team members, storage and AI credits. A card is required to start the 7-day free trial. When the trial ends, we charge your card for the plan you picked, unless you cancel before.
What is an MCP server?
It is a server that speaks the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for linking AI apps to other software. The server offers a menu of actions, such as listing accounts or scheduling a post, and the assistant picks one when your request needs it. Postocial's server works with your posts, media, tags and analytics, and on Premium and higher plans with your inbox too, always within your role.
Which AI tools work with the Postocial MCP server?
We have setup guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code with GitHub Copilot Chat. Other apps that support remote MCP servers can connect with OAuth sign-in, or with a personal access token if they can only send a fixed token. We have not tested each of them.
What is the server URL?
https://app.postocial.com/mcp, whichever app you connect. Opened in a browser tab it returns an error, which is normal: the address only answers MCP clients.
Do I need an API key to connect?
No. The five clients in our guides sign in with OAuth: you log in to Postocial and choose a workspace. Clients that cannot run that sign-in use a personal access token instead. Workspace API keys belong to the REST APIs.
Can my assistant connect new social accounts?
Connect social accounts in Postocial itself. The assistant works with the accounts already connected to your workspace. See how to connect accounts.
Can the assistant add images or video to a post?
Yes. The assistant can attach files from your Postocial media library, or add an image or video to the library from a public link and use it in the post. Upload files from your computer to the media library first. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest posts need an image or video, so check the media in Postocial before the post goes out.
Can the assistant work in the inbox?
On Premium and higher plans, yes, as far as your team role allows. It can search contacts, read and assign conversations, prepare broadcasts, draft automations and book appointments. It sends a message or an approved WhatsApp template only after you confirm, broadcasts it prepares wait for approval in Postocial, and automations it builds stay drafts until someone publishes them. Assistants can send at most 60 messages an hour and reach at most 200 people a day per workspace.
How do I post to X through my assistant?
X connects to Postocial with your own X API key, and you pre-fund X developer credits (about $5 per 500 posts). Once X is connected in your workspace, it appears in the assistant's account list like any other account. Postocial has no analytics for X. See how to connect X.
How is this different from the AI assistant inside Postocial?
The built-in AI assistant writes captions and hashtags and creates images inside Postocial, using your plan's AI credits. The MCP server works the other way around: your own AI tool, such as Claude or ChatGPT, uses Postocial.
