Best practices

Threads best practices

How to write for Threads' limits and keep conversations going.

  • Write like you talk. Posts are capped at 500 characters, which suits one clear thought and a question.
  • Pick one topic tag. Only the first valid tag in a post counts, so choose the one that describes it best.
  • Watch your links. Since December 2025, the Threads API rejects posts with more than five links.
  • Use vertical images. Images at 3:4, such as 1440 × 1920, fill the feed well.
  • Answer while the post is fresh. Every reply adds to the conversation people see under your post.

Threads limits and media specs

The limits and sizes Threads sets for text, images and video, with a source for each. Platforms change them often, so check before a big campaign.

  • Threads character limits

    Bio150 characters

About the text limit. Text posts and replies are capped at 500 characters, and the API counts emoji by UTF-8 bytes. A post can have up to 5 unique links. Since December 22, 2025 the API rejects posts with more. Text attachments for long-form writing (up to 10,000 characters) launched on September 4, 2025. The API allows 250 published posts and 1,000 replies per profile in 24 hours, and a carousel counts as one post.

Hashtags. Threads uses topic tags, one per post. Through the API a topic tag is 1 to 50 characters, with no periods or ampersands. If a post has several in-text tags, only the first valid one is used.

Questions about Threads scheduling

Something else on your mind? Email us at hello@postocial.com.

Can I schedule Threads posts with Postocial?

Yes. Connect your Threads profile, write the post and pick a time or add it to your queue. Postocial publishes it on schedule.

How long can a Threads post be?

500 characters for posts and replies. The Threads API counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes, so emoji-heavy posts reach the limit sooner. The Threads app also offers text attachments of up to 10,000 characters for long-form writing.

How many hashtags can I use on Threads?

One. Threads uses topic tags, and only the first valid tag in a post is used. A tag can be 1 to 50 characters long, without periods or ampersands.

Can I answer Threads replies in Postocial?

Yes, on Premium and higher plans. Replies come into the unified inbox, where you can answer them, assign them to teammates, add internal notes and use saved replies or AI-suggested replies from your own AI key.

Can I add a location to a Threads post?

Yes. Search for a place in the composer and tag it on your Threads post. Location tags are only available for Threads, and Threads has to be set to publish automatically.

Is there a limit on how much I can post to Threads?

The Threads API allows 250 published posts and 1,000 replies per profile in 24 hours, and a carousel counts as one post. Keep that in mind if you schedule in bulk.

Can I post the same content to Threads and Instagram?

Yes. Create one post for both networks and give each its own version: a full caption for Instagram and a shorter, conversational take for Threads.
