What counts toward the Facebook limit
Everything in the post box counts: letters, spaces, line breaks, emoji, hashtags and every pasted link at its full length. This counter counts characters as you see them, so an emoji with a skin tone is one.
The 63,206 figure is the cap widely reported for profile and Page posts. Meta’s developer docs don’t state it, so treat it as a ceiling rather than a target. The limit that shapes your writing is much lower: the feed collapses long posts behind a “See more” link, and readers decide from the first line or two whether to open the rest.
Comments have their own limit of 8,000 characters. If you plan a long first comment, check it separately.
Facebook character limits
| Field | Limit (characters) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Post | 63,206 | Widely reported cap for profile and Page posts. Meta’s developer docs don’t state it. |
| Comment | 8,000 | Also applies to a first comment, which is a regular comment. |
| Display name | 75 | |
| Username | 50 |
Hashtags on Facebook
Hashtags work in posts, but Meta's Page publishing docs set no count limit and no official cap is published. Keep them few and specific.
Tips for Facebook posts
- Put the hook in the first line. Everything after the opening lines sits behind “See more”.
- Break long updates into short paragraphs with a blank line between them, so the expanded post is easy to scan.
- Keep hashtags few and specific. Meta sets no count limit for Page posts, but a long list buries your message.
- Move links or extra detail into a first comment when the post itself should stay short.
- Reels published through Meta’s API are limited to 30 per Page in a rolling 24 hours, so spread large batches across days.
Publish Facebook posts that fit, on schedule
Postocial publishes to Facebook Pages from the same calendar as your other channels. Write the Facebook version of a post next to shorter versions for X or Bluesky, add a first comment, attach a custom video thumbnail and drop it into a free slot in your posting queue.
On Premium and higher plans, comments and messages from your Page arrive in the unified inbox, where you can assign them to a teammate or answer with a saved reply. See how Postocial works with Facebook Pages.
