What counts toward the Reddit limit
On Reddit, the title carries the post. It can be up to 300 characters, per Reddit’s API, and it’s both the hook people read and the text search matches. The body of a text post is reported by third-party sources at up to 40,000 characters.
Each community decides which post types it allows and may require post flair, so check its rules before you write. Reddit has no hashtags: people find posts through the community, a searchable title and the right flair, which communities use as clickable categories.
Comments can be up to 10,000 characters, and each image in a gallery can have a caption of up to 180.

Hashtags on Reddit
Reddit has no hashtag system. Discovery comes from choosing the right community, writing a searchable title and adding post flair. Communities use flair as clickable categories that list every post with the same flair.
Tips for Reddit posts
- Read each community’s rules and allowed post types before you post.
- Write a specific, descriptive title. It’s the hook and the search text at once.
- Add the correct post flair, especially where a community requires it.
- Join the discussion in the comments instead of dropping a link and leaving.
- Tailor each post to the community and avoid repetitive self-promotion.
