Threads fields that accept styled letters
Threads posts and bios accept Unicode symbols, so the styled letters on this page paste straight in. On a text-first network, a bold opening line helps a post stand out in a busy feed, and the 150-character bio has room for a styled label or two.
How styled letters count on Threads
Threads allows 500 characters per post, and its API counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes. Styled letters are multi-byte symbols too, so they may use more of the limit than they appear to. Leave some room if a styled post is close to 500.
Keep the topic tag plain. Threads uses one topic tag per post, and a styled tag won’t match the topic people follow.
Keep it readable for everyone
Screen readers may skip styled letters or read them as math symbols, and search won’t match them to plain words. Style a word, not the whole post, and put anything people need to understand in plain letters.
Ideas for Threads
- A bold first line that sums up the post.
- Italic for a quote or a book title.
- A styled label in your bio, like your role or your niche.
