Which size to use
Hootsuite recommends 1440 × 1920 (3:4) for Threads feed images. The API takes images from 320 to 1440 pixels wide and scales anything outside that range, so 1440 wide is as sharp as a post gets.
Carousels use the same size. A carousel holds 2 to 20 images and videos, mixed as you like, and it counts as one post toward the API’s limits. For your profile picture, a 640 × 640 square works well.
