X fields that accept styled letters
X posts, bios and display names all accept Unicode symbols, so styled letters keep their look after you paste them. They’re most useful for a bold lead-in on a thread, a label in your bio or a single word you want to stress.
Your bio has 160 characters and your display name 50. Your username, limited to 15 characters, should stay plain.
How styled letters count on X
X weights characters: according to X’s developer docs, a link counts as 23 and each emoji or CJK character as 2. Most styled letters fall outside the ranges X counts as one, so expect each of them to count as 2 as well. A 20-letter bold headline uses about 40 of your 280 characters.
Keep it readable for everyone
Screen readers may skip styled letters or spell them out symbol by symbol, which turns a bold headline into noise. Search on X matches plain words, so a styled keyword may not show up for people searching for it. Keep the main point of each post in plain letters and style a word or two at most.
